Jack is Out of the Box!

Happy Halloween my Friends!

I made this Halloween Tree for my son's preschool class Halloween party tomorrow, for which I have volunteered with another mom who also is a friend of mine. Well not knowingly she put me on the spot and said out loud, "Oh you are so creative! I know it'll just be great." When all I was going to do was make tags for the goody bags earlier this week, the guilt and pressure of being "creative" got to me...

My brain was trying to think of something cute to do for these kids...I was lost...until I was out in the yard picking up limbs and found this branch you see in the photo. Ah ha ~ I had a "light bulb moment!" Hang pumpkins from the tree. They are stitched felt bean bags that the children can play catch with or toss. I call these guys, "Smiling Jacks."

Have a fun and safe weekend ~ I'll talk to you next week sometime.

Fabulous!

I have recently become acquainted with and joined a terrific group on Etsy, called Fabulous Artistic Moms or FAM. The work these women create is so diverse ~ baby clothing to photography ~ jewelry to pottery ~ paintings to body and bath goodies. I am sure that some of you will recognize some names of artists, crafters, and designers.

Please take a moment to check out their blog. It is very well done and so pretty.

Clean Laundry

Now, one FAM member who is a pro at creating cool treasuries on Etsy, has done it again and made this one fun! Holly of Winkle Pots will take you on a scavenger hunt and you will have a chance to win $10 in FAM bucks which you may use toward purchases from participating members. I am happy to say that I was asked by Holly air out my "Clean Laundry" in this scavenger hunt and treasury, titled "Lavender's Blue."

Have a good time and enjoy!

The New "It Girl"

I guess I am the new “It Girl.” Is this short for “Italian Girl” or actually because I have been “tagged” and now I am “it?” I think the latter, obviously.

Two of my friends ~ Terri of
Originals by Terri and Melanie of Le Petit Cabinet de Curiosites ~ have tagged me this month, and now I am obliged to tell you six little things about myself that are either fabulous or funny or inconsequential or quirky…a peek inside...

* I polish my toes hot pink all year long, except when I paint them cherry red from the middle of December through St. Valentine’s Day.

* I used to have a Holland Lop, a floppy eared house rabbit. His name was Guido. Now I have a virtual bunny ~ you may visit him on the side bar below.

* The thing I miss most about not living in California, is being near the water. I crave the ocean breeze.

* I won my very first art contest when I was about six or seven years old. It was an Easter colouring and painting contest that the local shopping center sponsored. I think my Mom has kept the painting.

* I rarely if ever cook on Friday ~ I told my husband this when we were dating.

* I sewed most of my clothes in high school because I loved designer clothes and could obviously not afford them. I was the only one in school who wore “couture” clothing…albeit made by me.

Now you know everything there is to know about me. I have been asked to tag more of my blog friends, but those who I would tag have already been tagged…so I will leave them alone, except to visit them on their blogs regularly. I hope you will too. Take a look at my list of “blog beauties.”

~ ~ ~

I must also acknowledge and thank two of my friends who have passed along the following awards to me. I am fortunate for the privilege of getting to know you both. It is not only inspiring to see your work, but it encourages me to be better at what I present on this blog.

Back at you and thank you Poppins for being inspiring with your beautiful photography.

"Carta d'Oro"

And of course Ingrid ~ you are the “gold card” of Italy!

Thank you for stopping by.

French Mops

Hydrangea Macrophylla, Charm Hydrangea, French Mopheads, or "Endless Summer"

These floppy mops are growing in my garden and I have a few that are this pretty periwinkle blue...but most have green blooms. I have been trying to get the soil acidity just right so that they turn a deep cobalt blue.

~ ~ ~

The language of flowers, sometimes called floriography, was a Victorian-era means of communication in which various flowers, herbs, plants, and floral arrangements were used to send secret messages. What a delightful way for a charming gentleman to eloquently and silently express his feelings to a young lady with the delicate scent of flowers.

The symbolic meaning of hydrangeas suggest vain glory; heartlessness; a boaster; frigidity; thank you for understanding (this last one is the meaning I prefer).

French Mops

This beauty I have listed in my Etsy shop. I think it is just perfect for a bedroom, bathroom, cottage kitchen, or mud room. The little lamb embossed on the hand made Italian pitcher is precious, which makes this a perfect photograph for even a child's room.

It is available as an ACEO and 5"x 7" or 8" x 12" matted enlargements. I have also made some of my laminated magnets out of this image and they are very nice. This is an unretouched digital photograph ~ the colours in the flowers were as vibrant as you see them here!

Thank you for stopping by. Ciao amici,

Ghastly and Gorgeous Gourds

Last week I went on a field trip with my four year old and his pre-school class to a charming working "fun” farm just south of Atlanta. I must truly be a country girl at heart…as long as there is a big city close by. It was a wonderful time ~ teachers, parents, children. The afternoon was lazy and lovely ~ sunny, breezy, and crisp autumn weather greeted us,

(My little animal is on the left.)

and so did the farm animals.

Say hello to Wooly

...and to Billy

...and of course, Romeo who had a little affair with my son’s teacher!

~ ~ ~

The harvest of ghastly and gorgeous gourds was abundant,

so I purchased a few for my table at home.

Boo!

Enjoy your weekend everyone. Thank you for stopping by.

Feeling Blue

I was feeling a little blue the other day, so…

I painted this pair of vintage wrought iron and wicker chairs I found at an antique shop in town for thirty eight bucks!

I could not resist. I cleaned them up, repaired some of the wicker, got rid of a bit of rust and grime, and then painted them cobalt BLUE.

I think that they look just so “cafĂ© and bistro-like” in my kitchen. I love them, but we will probably not use them every day. They are somewhat delicate, a bit wobbly, a spot of welding needs to be done on one of them, and I do not think that my 6’3” hubby will feel comfy enough sitting his bootie on them. This time FUNCTION definitely follows FORM.

They do look cool with these hand made ceramic knobs I have on my cabinets and drawers too. (You can see a crooked one below the marble table a couple of photos up.)

I took a break after the "restoration" work on the chairs, sat down (ever so gently) on one of my "new" chairs, had a snack, and ate some delicious Bartlett pears.

Feeling even bluer and urged on by my little boy one rainy afternoon this past week, we made a blue "monster" out of some pretty shirts that no longer fit the main man of the house. My son actually cried when I cut the sleeve off of one of “Daddy’s shirts.”

When we (I) were (was) finished sewing up the guy, he was ready for a nap and so was I.

We will probably make more monsters with the rest of the shirts and scraps of fabric that I have collected from projects over the years. Stay tuned.

Ciao for now amici.

Magnetic Attraction

I’ve got it. Do you?

mag·net·ic \mag-'ne-tik\ adjective; date: 1611
1: possessing an extraordinary power or ability to attract (a magnetic personality)
at·trac·tion \e-'trak-shen\ noun; date: 14th century
1 a: the act, process, or power of attracting; 1
b: personal charm

(Merriam-Webster Dictionary)

(This is my son’s big red magnet and junk that he has collected. We keep it all in his “magnet box” when we are not playing with it or looking for nuts and bolts in the grass. It's not for sale in my Etsy shop.)

You can get some ~ "magnetic attraction," that is ~ if you stop by my shop. Obviously, I have been "pulled" in another direction for the last ten days. I have been working at creating these new products and am giving you a sneak peek before I finish listing them all on my Etsy.

For the Birds

Palettes ~ Clean and Messy

Bistros

From my All Gouached Up!™ and photography collections, I have printed some favorite designs and images in a miniature format, laminated them, and hot glued a magnet on the back.

They are fabulous and fun magnets for just about anything or nothing at all ~ they are works of art in themselves.

Cottage Windows

Just Rosie

Blue Walls

Each magnet can hold between five to eight sheets of paper, depending on the weight of course. They are water resistant ~ just wipe them clean. Great for your child’s “refrigerator art,” inspiration boards, home office, laundry room, mud room, even in your bathroom! Also, consider using these as terrific party favors, stocking stuffers, gift adornments, baby or bridal shower or hostess gifts.

Pucker Up ~ Citrus

Two Scoops ~ Ice Cream

These have been printed on glossy photo paper in my studio with an ink jet printer. I sealed them with a heavy duty, water resistant laminate, and then hot glued a medium weight magnet on the back. Each is either originally signed on the front and/or initialed in pencil on the back.

Cottage Doors

So French

That's Italian

For more detailed information, pricing, and availability please stop by my Etsy shop. Not all of the magnets are listed yet ~ I will be listing them throughout this week. Please check back.
If you are interested in creating a custom magnet with any art or photos of mine that you have seen here, on Flickr, or my Etsy shop, just let me know and I will be more than happy to create something special just for you!

Thank you for stopping by. Ciao amici.
